Steel Prism is a sound sculpture built from galvanized steel and electronics. Four plates of steel are bolted together and are mounted with transducers to produce and measure vibration. The transducers are connected in a feedback loop to create spontaneous oscillation. Gain control electronics were inserted into the feedback loop to reduce the loop gain when the measured signal level crosses a threshold. Steel Prism was installed on Mills College campus on 12/3/2008 and 12/4/2008. |
